Innovation Building

44

Within the Humanitas University Campus, Colombo Costruzioni built the Innovation Building, a new center for research and technological experimentation dedicated to Roberto Rocca. Conceived as a “hangar of knowledge” with a hybrid timber–concrete structure and reconfigurable spaces, the building houses advanced 3D printing laboratories, electron microscopy facilities, and the Humanitas AI Center.

The interior layout promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, featuring an open, modular floor plan overlooking a triple-height central nave. The transparent double-skin façades create a bioclimatic “light box”, maximizing natural daylight and contributing to the thermal regulation of the envelope.

From a technological and MEP perspective, the building is equipped with geothermal HVAC systems, rainwater and process water recovery and reuse systems, automated LED lighting, FSC®-certified furnishings, and an indoor waste-sorting system. The entire complex was designed in accordance with principles of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and occupant well-being.
