The Mapei Football Center is the new sports complex of U.S. Sassuolo Calcio, built on a 45,000 sqm municipal site in the northern area of Sassuolo. The facility includes six regulation-size football pitches and a main building that houses the club’s sports, medical, and administrative functions.
The main building, approximately 105 meters long and distributed over three above-ground levels, is constructed with exposed reinforced concrete vertical and horizontal structures. The floor slabs are made of prefabricated Predalles panels, while the internal walls in exposed cellular concrete blocks ensure durability and easy maintenance. The functional layout allocates the ground floor to the first team facilities (locker rooms, gyms, physiotherapy), the first floor to youth teams, and the second floor to administrative offices and a conference hall.
The building layout and façade design reinterpret the typological language of the traditional Emilian barchessa, featuring a linear, horizontally developed volume with curved façades clad in dark gray brick and contained heights (12 meters). Particular attention was given to the integration with the surrounding agricultural landscape and the efficient use of land, favoring a single compact volume over a fragmented composition.
The center is LEED-certified and incorporates technological solutions for climate control, acoustic comfort, and efficient energy management, fully aligned with the latest environmental sustainability standards.
