The Medelan is a landmark redevelopment project in the heart of Milan that transforms the historic Palazzo Broggi into a modern, sustainable, and multifunctional complex. Located in Piazza Cordusio, the building occupies an entire city block and covers approximately 55,000 sqm. The complex is composed of three interconnected buildings constructed in different periods: the original headquarters of Credito Italiano designed by Luigi Broggi in 1902, the Magazzino Contratti from 1903, and an extension from the 1960s designed by Giovanni Muzio.
This layered architectural heritage has been unified through a design strategy that enhances the historic identity while enabling new contemporary uses.
The project included meticulous conservation of the historic façades and a complete restructuring and redefinition of the interior spaces. The mechanical, electrical, and specialty systems were entirely replaced to meet the most advanced standards. Automation systems, energy-saving strategies, and design solutions for optimizing natural light were integrated throughout the complex.
The Medelan accommodates mixed-use functions: retail spaces on the basement, ground, and first floors; Grade A offices from the second to the fifth floors; and a panoramic restaurant with terrace on the sixth floor. The functional layout is completed by underground parking, storage areas, technical rooms, and landscaped courtyards.
Dedicated facilities include bicycle parking, showers, electric vehicle charging stations, and smart lockers.
The project has achieved LEED Platinum and WELL Silver certifications, confirming its focus on environmental efficiency and user well-being.
The redevelopment of The Medelan contributes to the urban regeneration of Milan’s historic center, offering a dynamic destination where tradition, innovation, and sustainability converge.
