Vetra Building is the result of a major architectural and structural redevelopment of an existing office complex in the center of Milan, overlooking Piazza della Vetra and the Basilica of San Lorenzo. The project comprises two buildings (Building A and Building B) with a total gross floor area of approximately 25,000 sqm, accommodating mixed-use functions including offices, retail, and collective spaces. The works were completed with the delivery of the refurbished property, rated Class A and awarded LEED Platinum certification.
The project included the controlled demolition of existing structural elements, the strengthening and integration of foundation and superstructure systems, with the aim of improving the building’s seismic performance. Additional interventions involved the vertical extension of the upper floors and the functional recovery of the attic spaces. The composition of the volumes was redefined through the introduction of a new connecting bridge and the creation of an internal courtyard, now serving as the main circulation hub linking the two buildings.
The redevelopment also involved the complete replacement of windows and façades, as well as the full reconstruction of electrical and mechanical systems, in line with the project’s energy efficiency goals. The ground floor has been transformed into an open food district with restaurants, bars, and multifunctional areas. The project breathes new life into a long-neglected urban block, contributing to the regeneration of the surrounding neighborhood and redefining the relationship between the building, the park, and the public realm.
